Global cancer
If you were diagnosed with a treatable cancer, I doubt you would put your head in the sand and take no serious action. If I may be allowed a short rant today, we have all been collectively diagnosed with a global environmental cancer, yet we choose not to treat it. I compare destruction of air, lands and oceans with my individual cancer because it is of our own making. It comes from us, and it will inevitably finish us off. But this global cancer is so much more treatable than mine that it is outrageous that people and governments, especially the United States, take no serious action.
Ask anyone with cancer: if you could have your cancer go into remission by your government and you adopting 100 rectifying measures, would you hesitate for a second, even if it meant giving up a car or paying more money for everything?
And the reason we don't? Because we think we can keep going like this for another 15 years or more. Our refusal to do differently makes about as much sense as teenagers on a corner smoking cigarettes.

Allen Minker had a heart for Hospice SLO.....
His 'livejournal' is quite interesting, and his entry on September 1st was very meaningful to me, as it gives a glimpse into his incredible mind, along with that twist of humor.
