To Tayli ~ Love Mom
They say that beauty is only skin deep
I completely believe that’s true
It’s not what you see when you look in the mirror
It’s what others see inside of you
What fills your heart stands out more
Than what people see on your face
And you’re more fortunate to have friends
Whose heart is in the right place
What I’ve seen in the past few days
As you’ve primped to look your best
Is amazing beauty inside and out
That stands apart from the rest
Your compassion for all God’s creations
Is beyond what most teenagers are yet to conceive
And the perfect level of assertiveness
Helps you stand behind what you believe
Your outer beauty frightens me at times
Because boys will be fighting to be your #1
Let your intelligence keep you focused
On school and, of course, having fun
Whenever you need advice
Or someone to listen to what’s on your mind
You know you can tell me anything
Consistent trust in me you’ll find
Last, but not least
I’m proud of the person you are
There isn’t anything I’d change
I’m the luckiest mom, by far
They say that beauty is only skin deep
I completely believe that’s true
It’s not what you see when you look in the mirror
It’s what others see inside of you
What fills your heart stands out more
Than what people see on your face
And you’re more fortunate to have friends

I wrote this poem for Tay as she was sleeping last night, then I put it in her binder to surpise her at school today. She really is a good kid with a good head on her shoulders. I'm very lucky.
